Get to know Ed:

What brought you to Vinelife for the first time?

When we left California we asked friends who were involved with Cleansing Streams where there were churches in this area who had that ministry, they mentioned Vinelife.

Why did you stay?

We were welcomed right away and encouraged to get involved.

What was your first step in getting involved at Vinelife?

We joined Pastor Marshall and Linda Shermans’s Life team

Where have you plugged in at Vinelife?

In intercessory prayer, Freedom Ministries, The River and now Eldership.

What has been of one your proudest moments?

We had our children at home, so being a part of their birth, witnessing the strength and courage of my wife and experiencing the awe of God at our son’s first breaths.

What inspires you?

Witnessing the Holy Spirit change and bring healing into life long areas of discomfort in my own and other people’s lives.

Who inspires you?

People who are hungry for God and are willing to look at the things mentioned above and to hang in there until He meets them in those areas of their life.

What makes you laugh?

The joy of genuine conversation and those unpredictable moments that spontaneously occur.

What’s a current indulgence for you?

Peanut butter and cheese sandwiches, sometimes grilled

What’s your day job?

I work with Severely Emotionally Disturbed Children within the public school system in Longmont.

What’s something new that you’re learning in your job that has surprised you?

That love can change people faster than we think.

Your idea of a perfect day?

A slow start with extended time to rest in God, time with friends in exploratory conversation and a nice lunch.

What’s currently in your CD player ? Heather Clark, Aaron Strumple and Fergus Marsh

Your first job?

Stacking hay bales

What is your greatest memory?

A night on a ship in Viet Nam when the Lord’s love brought hope into my hopeless heart.

What is your favorite movie?

High Road to China

What do you look for in a close friend?

Transparency and a willingness to tell me the truth in love.

What’s something new that you’ve learned about the Bible lately, that has surprised you?

How the meanings of passages keep changing through the revelation of the Holy Spirit. Rob Bell stated that there are bricks and there are springs within the Bible and I believe that is becoming more true for me.

What do you think makes a good leader, someone that you’ll follow?

Similar answer to what I look for in a close friend.

If you could have lunch with a famous person, who would it be and why?

Bill Johnson – He talked at conference about what we have been given (1Cor 3:21-23) and how if 100 people could get that he believed the world could be changed. I’d like to explore that with him over a nice meal.

What’s one goal you have for the next year?

To be vulnerable and transparent with the people in the classes and groups I am involved with; in order to encourage myself and others to deal with the issues of character that arise as we are all being challenged and changed by the increasing presence of God in our congregation.

What is your definition of a retreat?

I have two definitions, one is individual – time to be quiet, with as little interruption as possible in order to enter into more of the rest of God; the second is corporate- time to pray together, seek the Spirit for direction as to what He wants to do, to stop processing when we get bogged down and worship and pray some more, enter into the rest of God together, eat together, laugh together, etc.

What has God been showing you lately that has surprised you?

That old ways of thinking can change.

Your fondest memory? (this is not the same as your proudest moment :-)

What comes to mind is a moment in time, laying in this flower rich meadow above Rainbow Lakes watching clouds with my wife , Linnea. It was a peace filled, joyful day resting in the beauty of creation.

What’s your biggest challenge?

Keeping my heart open in every circumstance.

If you were given an extra hour in a day to do whatever you want, what would you do?

Get quiet inside and out, to find my way into the stillness of God for a little longer period of time each, then take a walk.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I played drums with an African Dance class and troupe for many years.

Who is your greatest inspiration?

Right now it’s the people in our church who are willing to risk that they heard from The Holy Spirit and are reaching out to the non-believing community around us to heal the sick, give encouraging words and be light wherever they go.

What have you read recently that really inspired or excited you?

The Way of the Warrior by Graham Cooke

If you could vacation anywhere…where would you go?

What’s been on my mind lately is to go to India with Randy Clark.

dinnerware

What’s God doing in your life that you are celebrating right now?

His love, changing me, is bringing hope for understanding with dear long time friends to which Jesus was a stumbling block in our communication.
